A Tribute from LIAT
The Chairman, Board of Directors, Management and Staff of LIAT (1974)
LTD note with profound sadness, the passing of the Barbados Prime
Minister David John Howard Thompson on Saturday 23 October. As one of
the three shareholder Prime Ministers of LIAT (1974) LTD he was
unstinting in his commitment to, and support of, the airline and we
always looked forward to his participation in quarterly meetings of
shareholders where his wise advice was the fruit of sober reflection and
a calming influence no matter how turbulent the matters under
discussion Mr. Thompson saw LIAT as playing a pivotal role in regional
integration of which he was a champion throughout his personal and
professional life. We will miss his compassion but also his wit, dry
humour and ability to cut through the verbiage and to focus on the
critical issues of the day. His dedication to service in Barbados and
the region will always be remembered. To his wife, Mara; his three
children; mother and father; the Government and people of Barbados, we
express our condolences.
Part of the team
A grateful tennis coach has praised LIAT for its help in providing air transportation for the Antigua and Barbuda Tennis Team to the 13 and Under ITF Development Championships held in Curaçao last year.
The team included Edward Buckley, Jevannie Ambrose, D’ Jeri Raymond and Coach Mr. Larry Michael.
“On behalf of Team Antigua and Barbuda I take this opportunity to thank LIAT for going the extra mile,” Coach Michael said.
“It is extremely important that corporate sponsors play a pivotal role in the development of sport, and tennis is one of the sports that finds it extremely difficult in securing funds for ventures such as this. LIAT is definitely playing its part and we hope to see continuous support for tennis in the future . Once again the utmost thanks for your help.”
Warri Winner!
LIAT Revenue Accountant and Antigua & Barbuda’s ‘warri king’, Trevor ‘Simple’ Simon, has captured a fifth overall and a third straight World Warri title after he excelled at the sixth Swiss International Tournament Held at the Museum in La tour de Peliz Switzerland.
Did you know… Warri is an ancient board game (also called Oware or Mancala) created in Egypt some 7000 thousand years ago, and in the beginning it was traditionally played by royalty, then later War Lords and Generals used it to strategise and overcome opposing forces.
Good night
Hundreds of people gathered on the tarmac at Melville Hall Airport in Dominica to witness the landing of the inaugural night flight from Antigua.
Everyone cheered as the aircraft touched down at approximately 8:00pm, and LIAT’s Chief Pilot, Captain Paul DaSilva, the skipper on the inaugural flight, said the following about the landing:
“When we came in the weather was in our favour, and we were able to see the lights of the runway about 14 miles out. Once we had the lights in sight it was quite a nice approach into a landing here for the inaugural night flight,” he said.
Captain DaSilva said being the first LIAT pilot to fly to Dominica in the night is something for his records.

Making the effort
I want to compliment Mr. Angus in your Baggage department for getting our cases shipped to the UK after they were delayed in Antigua. He spent time pulling things together after our cases had been missing for a few days. I sincerely appreciate his work in getting things organised and would like to thank him again for taking this problem in his stride. I hope he has a promising future in your company.

Great impression
We flew into BVI from Trinidad this morning on Flight 310. It was a lovely flight with a very pleasant cabin crew. Passengers were getting on and off at various islands but we were on for the full trip. I had several conversations with the Flight Attendant and she made an impression. She was very smart and caring towards other passengers especially where boarding cards were a problem for individuals. It’s nice to pass compliments but you don’t always have the time. That’s why I am contacting you… to pass on my remarks re the cabin crew on my flight. Thank you very much.

Number one
Mr. Wayne Watson has worked miracles for me especially with flights for my work place many times. He has been very helpful and has made me continue to make LIAT my number one airline. To be honest I feel more comfortable flying with LIAT than any other airline. Thanks Wayne!
