LIAT commences services to Canouan
From March 3, LIAT will operate three flights per week from Grenada to Canouan in the southern Grenadines, with three more flights originating from Barbados being added from 6 March.
Flight 760 will depart Grenada on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:15am, arriving in Canouan at 10:45am. It will then leave Canouan at 11:00am, arriving in Barbados at 11:40am.
Flight 787 will leave Barbados at 5:20pm on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, arriving in Canouan at 6:00pm. It will leave Canouan at 6:15pm, arriving in Grenada at 6:45pm.
“Canouan visitors and residents can look forward to improved inter-island connections with the introduction of these services by LIAT,” said chief executive Mark Darby. “Our decision to introduce scheduled services to the island at this time is just another demonstration of our commitment to the region. We will be looking at improving our schedule in the near future.”
Darby added that it took months of collaboration between the Government of St Vincent and the Grenadines, LIAT and Canouan Resorts Development Ltd – developers of the Canouan International Airport – to get to this stage.
He praised St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves for his vision and personal intervention in bringing the plan to fruition.
The Prime Minister, meanwhile, has hailed the planned commencement of the LIAT flights as “a most important development”.
“LIAT’s entry to Canouan is most significant. The southern Grenadines constitute an important base for tourism,” he said.
“We have built a jet airport in Canouan, which was opened in May last year, and LIAT will contribute immensely not only to Canouan but to the lift-off from Canouan to Union Island and Bequia... so it’s going to help nationals and it’s going to help visitors.”
4 reasons to board our new flights to Canouan
LIAT now flies to Canouan six times a week. Here are a few reasons why you should go!
SNORKELLING A coral wonderland makes Canouan a great place for diving and offshore snorkelling

SCENERY Low undulating hills make the island a pleasant place for walking – where you’ll meet more goats than people on its pathways
LIAT marks entry to Canouan with a vow to stay in Caribbean hands
LIAT has celebrated the start of services to Canouan by pledging to keep its ownership in the hands of the Caribbean people.
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Canouan International Airport, St Vincent and the Grenadines Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said that recent developments have highlighted, even more, the need to keep LIAT in regional hands.
He said: “If we had taken the decision to allow LIAT simply to fold, the fact is that Caribbean Star... would have been subject to the decision of the US Supreme Court, there would have been a receiver, the assets would have been frozen... we would have had a real problem, a crisis, genuine crisis.
He continued: “Had we not owned and controlled our own airline, we would not have had an airline to come into this Canouan airport with today.”
Dr Jean Holder, chairman of LIAT, said the commencement of the new service was a testament to LIAT’s commitment to the region.
“I’m very happy to be here to celebrate what I would say is a very important addition to our 21 destinations,” he said. “If I would find one fault it’s that the world knows too little about this place and we need between ourselves to do a great deal more to change that perspective.”
Holder added that it was noteworthy that while airlines the world over were cutting their services, LIAT was doing the opposite, in order to meet the needs of the region.
Canouan is home to the luxurious 5-Star Raffles Resorts, Tamarind Beach Hotel and Yacht Club, the Grenadines Estate, the Fairmont Golf Club and a variety of restaurants.
The new service will also serve as a valuable connection for the big airlines out of Europe and North America.
