We want to fly you to Curaçao PDF Print E-mail
(Issue 6 - January 2010)
LIAT flies to Curaçao three times a week. Here are ten reasons why you should be on board one of those flights.

1 The Floating Market

For a unique shopping experience, head for the northern corner of the Punda district in Willemstad where, each morning, traders from Venezuela arrive in boats loaded with tropical fruits and fresh fish.

2 Mikve Isarael-Emanuel Synagogue
Also situated in the Punda district in and widely thought of as one of the most important historical sights in the whole of the Caribbean, this is possibly the oldest synagogue in continuous use in the western hemisphere.

3 Swim with dolphins
If you want an ‘up close and personal’ encounter with marine life, you’ll find it at the Sea Aquarium just outside Willemstad. (www.curacao-sea-aquarium.com)

4 Hato Caves
These incredible caves are home to a colony of long-nose bats, dramatic stalactites and stalagmites, and some Caquetio rock drawings thought to be 1500 years old.

5 Diving
Marvel at the spectacular coral formations and the many huge sponges – one in Boca Santa Martha is so big it’s known as ‘the double bed’!

6 Curaçao Ostrich Farm
After something different? At this farm in the eastern corner of the island you’ll feed the birds, hold one of their large eggs and learn all about these incredible flightless creatures.

7 Get close to nature
To experience the true beauty of this island, visit the Christoffel National Park, a remarkable 4600-acre wilderness which boasts an impressive array of plants and animals.

8 Senior & Company Liquer Distillery
Home to the world famous sweet-tasting liqueur Curuçao Blue, take a tour, then treat yourself to a bottle to take home.

9 Fortkerk
This historical 18th-Century Protestant Church still has a British cannonball embedded in its walls, the result of a skirmish between the Dutch and the British in the early 1800s.

10 Kas Di Pali Mashi
Built at the end of the 19th Century, this traditional adobe house, complete with thatched roof, is a great place to visit when you’re hungry – local food is served outside at the back at lunchtime.
