Back in September 2011 the exhibition Design Caribbean took place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
The focus was on ‘celebrating the beautiful’ by showcasing a broad
product range of handmade quality products by talented Caribbean
craftspeople. As part of the exhibition, four industry experts were
asked to judge entries for the Design Awards and these are three of the talented home-grown winners… • Ms Ichia Tiyi 1st Prize Tiyi By Design is an exclusive Caribbean brand producing exquisite hand crafted art jewellery. • Atelier Doré 2nd Prize Modern Surinamese designed jewellery handcrafted from silver. • Mrs Kirie Ishmael Best Young Designer. As part of the University of West Indies group, she displayed a Scarlet Ibis-inspired ceramic jewellery collection. After the awards were announced Executive Director of Caribbean Export Pamela Coke-Hamilton said of the winners: “It is so pleasing to see so many quality artisans displaying excellence in aesthetics, skill and quality. I look forward to their continued growth and new collections that will continue to captivate audiences worldwide. ” • For more information, www.designcaribbean.com |
