The challenge: two days, 24 special stages, 125 kilometres on the island’s notoriously tricky tarmac roads
The competitors: Up to 100 crews, including more than 30 from the wider Caribbean, the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe
The spectators: around 10% of the 260,000 population, sharing the moment – and the rum - with hundreds from overseas
The outcome: more than US$1.2 million flowing into the economy, 24-plus hours of TV coverage across 60 countries in Europe and Africa, a real result for sports-tourism
