(Issue 3: April 2009) In a first for the Caribbean, the 2009 International One-Metre World Championships for radio control yachts are to be held at Carlisle Bay, Barbados from 21 to 27 June. Up to 76 skippers from around the world will compete to find the new World Champion. It will be the first time the IOM class has staged an event of this stature in the Caribbean. Reigning champion Brad Gibson from Australia can expect strong competition from skippers in the UK, France, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, Spain, USA, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, as well as the Caribbean. Around 25-30 races will be completed in the prevailing 12-18 knot winds.
